MEECO氣體水分儀的Cell（傳感器）是嵌入一根中空玻璃管的兩組電極組成，該兩組電極上塗布P2O5薄膜。當樣品氣體以恒定的流速通過Cell時，Cell上的P2O5薄膜會吸收氣體中水分，在兩組電極通電後，被吸收水分子會被電解，從而産生電流。根據法拉第原理，由電流換算出Cell所吸收的水分，即可精确地測量出所采樣氣體中的水分含量。
